Who are we?
We are a circle of friends… but it wasn’t always that way.
Once upon a time, each of us was floating in our own distinct microcosm, strangers to one another, lost in the quotidian obligations of family, health, finances and work. And everything was just great…until that disturbing soundtrack started to play. Suddenly, life’s accompaniment became a daily barrage of media reports of the war in Syria. The haunting images could not be unseen, the facts could not be un-known, nor the sounds unheard. As the days passed, the background noise grew louder, demanding to be heard.
Then one day, a singular voice pierced through the cacophony of despair and negativity. Rising above the din, the voice asked if we would help sponsor a family from Syria. The voice belonged to our friend Minh, who is both the nucleus of our group and the initial spark of the engine that drives us forward.
Minh is also a Vietnamese refugee. In 1980, the Government of Canada saved Minh and her family from the political unrest in Vietnam. As the crisis in Vietnam grew, a private group of citizens in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, thought it high time to respond, and gathered the resources necessary to sponsor a family. Thirty-five years later, it’s Minh’s turn to give back and provide a family with the same opportunity that was afforded to hers.
This is why we have named our group “Team Full Circle”. It honours Minh’s journey, and it also symbolizes our common belief that acts of goodness will resound throughout the universe: what comes around…goes around. We are all grateful Canadians, and it is precisely this gratitude that has mobilized us, Minh’s friends, into action.
We are ready. We are ready to witness the miracles, both small and
large. We are ready to learn from the challenges that lie ahead. We are ready for the opportunity to make a difference. Behold, for you are about to witness a whole series of remarkable journeys, and we thank you for your interest in ours.
Why do we do this?
Because it’s 2016!
